Center CINCINNATI - On Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m., Dr. Stanley Hedeen will present Cincinnati Museum Center findings from Big Bone Lick State Park at Union Terminal. Big Bone Lick is the most fossil-rich area in the Cincinnati region, and has given the world the first evidence of several extinct species, including the American Mastodon. Dr. Stanley Hedeen is an Emeritus Professor of Biology and former Dean of Arts and Sciences at Xavier University and has authored numerous scientific papers as well as three books, " The Mill Creek: An Unnatural History of an Urban Stream" (1994), "Natural History of the Cincinnati Region" (2006), and "Big Bone Lick: The Cradle of American Paleontology" (2008). Dr. Hedeen is a member of the Hamilton County Environmental Action Committee, the Green Umbrella Board of Trustees, and numerous other environmentally focused community groups. He received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Quality Award for his "professional and community activities which serve to improve the quality of the environment." Dr. Hedeen will be offering a book-signing after his lecture. Sponsored by the Friends of Cincinnati Museum Center and the Museum of Natural History & Science Advisory Board, The Charles & Ralph Dury Lecture Series promotes an understanding and appreciation of the natural world. Topics include anthropology, archaeology, environmental science, geology, paleontology, and zoology. Lecturers are local and nationally known authorities, and are hosted in the Reakirt Auditorium at Cincinnati Museum Center. The series is free and open to the public.
