Hauntingly fun activities at Bat Fest
Costume parades & animal programs highlight great Halloween value at Cincinnati Museum Center Oct. 30-Nov. 1

CINCINNATI – Things are becoming a bit “batty” this Halloween at Cincinnati Museum Center … And the time – and price – has never been better for the public to come join in on all the fun.

Bat Fest, Cincinnati Museum Center’s annual celebration of all things relating to nature’s favorite flying nocturnal mammal, returns just in time for Halloween. Kicking off the fun will be a children’s costume parade through the Cincinnati History Museum, Duke Energy Children’s Museum and the Museum of Natural History & Science at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30. Two more children's costume parades will follow at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 1.

All children (age 12 and younger) that come dressed in their Halloween costumes receive one free All Museums Pass with each paying adult (adult must purchase an All Museums Pass). Each parade will start near the Store to Explore in the Rotunda.

Saturday will unleash a full slate of bat-themed activities for children and adults alike, beginning with a 30-minute showcase featuring the Union Terminal Flight Team from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Museum of Natural History & Science. Feel like doing more than watching bats? No problem – learn how to walk and fly like a bat Cincinnati Museum Center's Program-on-Wheels unit from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. More bat-tastic fun can be found with a visit from our friends at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, who will be on site from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to help you learn all about the infamous vampire bat by seeing one up close and personal.

Other highlights include Crystal Clear Science's "Scary Science" at noon and a performance by the Jumbie Jammers Steel Drum Group at 3:30 p.m., both of which will take place in the Duke Energy Children's Museum. More thrills can be found at “Bat Myths and Legends,” which features frightening folklore revealing the origins of the society’s unfounded fear of bats in the Cincinnati History Museum from 3 to 4 p.m.

All Bat Fest activities are free with the purchase of an All Museums Pass, which also now includes admission to Cincinnati Museum Center’s current special exhibit Lost Egypt, open through Jan. 3, 2010.

Bat Fest is presented with support from MomsLikeMe.com. For a complete list of Bat Fest activities, visit this link.
