Answers

When will I get my new card?

You will receive your cards in 2-3 weeks. Membership cards are dropped in the mail within 10 business days of joining or renewing. However, online sales are processed almost everyday during the week, and are usually sent in the mail within a few days.

Can I visit Museum Center if I don’t have my card?

Absolutely! If you completed your transaction on-line, just bring your printed email confirmation with you. Otherwise, when you visit Museum Center, stop by Member Services and an associate will verify your Member status and issue you a temporary card. If you prefer, you may call ahead (513) 287-7041, and we will verify your status and have a temporary card waiting for you at Will Call.

Who may visit on my membership?

Family membership at Cincinnati Museum Center is intended for two named adults and their children/grandchildren ages 17 and under. Individual membership at Cincinnati Museum Center is intended for one named adult and one guest, or two named people.

In attempting to best meet the needs of our constituency, Cincinnati Museum Center offers the following as an alternative. If you have two named adults on your membership and one can’t attend (ex. Mom and Dad are named people, but Dad can’t come) a second person may replace Dad on that visit. Please note – one named adult must accompany this stand-in member.

If you wish for a caregiver to bring your children, it will be necessary for you to purchase an Explorer Premium membership or higher.

I just renewed my membership but am going out of town before my cards arrive. Can I still take advantage of reciprocity at other museums?

YES! We would be happy to have a temporary card available at Will Call for you to pick up before you leave. If you cannot make it to pick up a temporary card, you may still take advantage of the reciprocity by having the reciprocal museum call us when you arrive, and we can confirm your status as a member. Please keep in mind that we are only here during the week until 6 p.m., and not during weekends. Another possibility is to have a temporary card faxed to you.

Who will the cards be sent to if this is a gift of membership?

During the busy Holiday Season (November-January), all cards are sent to the person who paid for the membership, the gift giver. The rest of the year either option is available as long as the giver makes their preference known. If no preference is indicated, the cards are sent to the giver.

How many membership cards will I receive?

You will receive a set of two membership cards.

My card is missing. Can I get a replacement?

There is a $5 fee for a set of two replacement cards. Just stop by Member Services or call the Membership Office at (513) 287-7041 and we will get you new cards.

Why do I have to present an ID with my membership card?

In an effort to protect your investment in the event that your card has been lost or stolen, we ask that all Members present an ID upon entrance to any of the three museums or when purchasing other tickets. Exceptions are made if your child/children are visiting with a caregiver. In that event, they will need to check in at Member Services before entering a museum.

How long is my membership valid?

Your membership is valid for one year. All memberships expire at the end of the month in which you purchased your membership.

My children are young. Why should I join?

Membership benefits cover admission into all 3 museums! While Duke Energy Children’s Museum definitely attracts most parents of young children, our other museums have a multitude of experiences and opportunities for people of all ages. We invite you to explore the different museums and share their unique offerings with your children. Some previous examples of activities for young children include: Miss Joanie’s Music and Potty Party, Super Sprouts for children four and under, as well as Kids DIG for children 5 and under. Don’t forget, as a Member you also receive discounted rates for most programs.

Can I purchase a membership for just one museum?

All memberships include free unlimited admission to all three museums at Cincinnati Museum Center!

As a member, do I receive admission to all special exhibits and museums for free?

All three museums at Museum Center are ALWAYS FREE for Members. As a Member, you receive either free or discounted admission to special exhibits based on the specific exhibit. Pricing details for each special exhibit are available at www.cincymuseum.org

How can my organization purchase a membership?

Memberships are only for individuals or families. We do not offer a membership for organizations at this time. To visit Museum Center with your organization, please contact our Information and Reservations Department at (513)287-7021 for group rates and to make a reservation.

How much is parking?

Parking is $6 each time you visit. Parking for Plus, Premium, and Platinum members is FREE all year long!

How do I add parking to my membership?

Just upgrade to the Explorer Plus level or higher to receive the free parking benefit.

What should I do if parking is included on my membership, but I do not have my membership card with me when I arrive?

There are two options:

  • Pay the $5 and get a receipt from the attendant. Stop by Member Services and pick up a temporary card. On your way out, show the attendant your temporary card and parking receipt and you will be reimbursed.
  • Before entering the lot, park in the temporary 15 minute parking in the circle and get your temporary membership card from Member Services which you may then use to enter the parking lot.

As a member do I get preferred parking?

All of our parking spots are based on a first come, first serve basis.

What can I do if all of the handicapped parking spots are taken?

Feel free to park in the temporary parking spots in the front of Union Terminal. If your car has a handicapped sticker, license plate, or tag, it will not be towed.

Can I upgrade my membership?

You may upgrade at any time, but your expiration date remains the same and cannot be changed, and the difference cannot be prorated based on the expiration date of your membership.

How does the guest/caregiver benefit work?

This individual (the guest/caregiver) may visit the museums with either an adult or child Member, but not alone. If accompanying a member child 12 years of age or younger the caregiver must be 18 years of age or older.

Can I purchase a membership with the guest/caregiver benefit and not the parking?

No. The Guest/Caregiver benefit comes with a Premium or Platinum level membership, both of which also include parking.

Can my caregiver bring my children without me?

Yes. However, only the Explorer Premium and Platinum level memberships include the guest/caregiver option. If you do not have one of these levels of membership, then someone else may bring your children; however, if they are not members themselves, they will have to pay for their own admission. If you don’t have this membership option, please have your caregiver stop at the kiosk to have your children’s hands stamped for proof of membership. Your caregiver can purchase his/her own entrance ticket at this time.

Do I receive a discount on admission tickets purchased for guests?

There is no discount on admission tickets. There are some renewal offers that include a FREE Guest Pass, so please watch your mail when your expiration date approaches.

Do I receive OMNIMAX passes when I renew my membership?

Special offers are often issued for members; however, this is not an automatic benefit of renewal. Watch your mail for your renewal offer with your expiration date approaches. As always, members do receive DISCOUNTS for OMNIMAX tickets!

What is the added benefit of a Premium Membership besides an extra guest/caregiver and parking?

Premium Members get an additional subscription to the Ohio Valley History Magazine as well as MOSAIC. Premium Members are also on an additional reciprocal museums list called the ACM (Association of Children’s Museums), which provides reciprocity to select children’s museums around the country.

Is my membership reciprocal with other museums?

YES! All levels membership at Cincinnati Museum Center are reciprocal with the institutions that participate in the ASTC (Association of Science and Technology Centers) Travel Passport Program. A full up-to-date list is available HERE, and at the ASTC Website www.astc.org. Premium and Platinum level memberships are also entitled to reciprocal privileges with the ACM (Association of Children’s Museums) reciprocal program. Information and participating museums are listed at the ACM website www.childrensmuseums.org. We strongly advise our Members to call their destination to ask about specific benefits and necessary credentials before traveling.

I have a membership at a different museum. Can I get in free at Cincinnati Museum Center?

The Museum of Natural History and Science is the museum at Cincinnati Museum Center that is part of the ASTC program. The Duke Energy Children’s Museum is on the ACM list.

How can I find out more information about the different activities going on in Cincinnati Museum Center?

One benefit of being an Explorer Member of Cincinnati Museum Center is a FREE subscription to our Member magazine, MOSAIC. MOSAIC is sent out 4 times a year and is a great resource to find out more about current and upcoming activities and special events at Museum Center. Or, browse our website, www.cincymuseum.org, for activities and program information.

Is my membership tax deductible?

Memberships are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Different membership levels carry different benefits associated with them. You receive a letter, along with your cards, providing you tax information. Please contact the Membership Office for complete details. We are able to provide you with a good faith estimate of the goods and services provided. Ultimately, we advise consulting a tax specialist.
