Aspiring Artists, supported by ArtsWave, connects guests with the talents, creativity and artistic processes of some of the city’s best local artists. As artists guide aspiring prodigies through different styles and mediums, guests will have an opportunity to hone or uncover their own styles and abilities.

Piece by Piece: Native Ohio Flora & Fauna with Sarah Rodriguez

Saturday, August 31

Inspired by Winold Reiss’s mosaic in the Rotunda, join artist Sarah Rodriguez to create colorful paper mosaics depicting images of flora and fauna native to Ohio. Using a variety of coloring materials, guests will work together to add color to a black and white design. Guests will also have an opportunity to create individual collages and drawings inspired by their favorite exhibit at CMC.

When: Saturday, August 31 from Noon to 5 p.m.

About the Artist

Sarah Rodriguez PortraitSarah Rodriguez (b.1992) is a multimedia artist and art educator based in Cincinnati, OH. Her work investigates human connectedness to nature, place, and objects. Utilizing cut paper she reflects the ephemerality of intimate and everyday moments. Rodriguez received her M.F.A from Miami University in 2017 and B.F.A from Wright State University in 2014.

Night Sky Stitches with Ciara LeRoy

Saturday, September 7

Join multidisciplinary artist, Ciara LeRoy for embroidery crafts inspired by the stars and creatures who dot the night sky. Choose between constellations, shooting stars, fireflies or a personalized "name constellation” using a constellation lettering alphabet designed by the artist.

Ciara LeRoy PortraitCiara LeRoy is a multidisciplinary artist and designer primarily focused on word-based works and hand embroidery. She aims to make work that is well-crafted and visually intriguing, but also deeply thoughtful and socially aware. Ciara is passionate about the connection between art & community development and utilizing her artistic practice to build bridges and explore deeper questions and solutions.

Art for Wellness with Joi Sears

Join us for an engaging and interactive workshop designed to promote emotional well-being and mindfulness through the power of art. In this hands-on experience, children and their families will explore various creative activities that encourage self-expression, relaxation and a deeper connection with their emotions. Using a blend of artistic mediums and mindfulness techniques, participants will discover how art can be a fun and therapeutic tool for enhancing mental health. Come ready to explore, create and find joy in the art of wellness!

Joi Sears PortraitJoi Sears is a creative working at the intersection of art, technology, and nature. As a Creative Strategist, Designer, and Social Entrepreneur, Joi holds a Master’s Degree in Arts and Social Change from NYU and a Certificate in "Designing for Social Innovation and Leadership" from the United Nations University of Peace. Currently, she is working on a mental health campaign with the Hamilton County Suicide Prevention Campaign and uses art as a catalyst for social change.

Her goal is to inspire people to connect to their local flora and fauna, which can in turn, fuel advocacy and strengthen our communities.

Play and Create with Paint

Saturday, December 14

Join artist, Adoria L. Maxberry, of Most OutGROWing: An Art Movement, for a day of exploration and play as we create with paint. Families will be able to paint a canvas magnet (while supplies last) and visit self-guided stations to learn various techniques including resist, texture play, pointillism and more. Materials will be provided, we just need your creativity. We can’t wait to help inspire you to create and grow through art!
